The Statistical Office in Kraków acts on the basis of:

• the Act of 29 June 1995 on Official Statistics (Journal of Laws of 2023, item 773),
• the Act of 21 November 2008 on Civil Service (Journal of Laws of 2024, item 409),
• the statute of the Statistical Office in Kraków granted by Directive No. 5 of the President of Statistics Poland of 21 March 2012 (Official Journal, item 15, as amended),
• the organizational regulations of the Statistical Office in Kraków introduced by the internal order No. 3 of the Director of the Statistical Office in Kraków of 10 April 2012, as amended.

The main tasks of the Statistical Office in Kraków include:

1) collecting, gathering, developing and analysing statistical data;

2) conducting work resulting from the statistical research programme of official statistics and the plan of methodological work;

3) transforming administrative data collections into statistical data collections;

4) reviewing the draft legal acts, programmes and other documents related to the specialization of the Office and monitoring changes in national and international legislation in this area;

5) conducting and implementing censuses and other studies with a wide range of observations in the Małopolskie Voivodship;

6) co-participating in conducting work on the methodology of statistical research concerning the Małopolskie Voivodship;

7) recognizing needs for statistical information and analyses in territorial sections in the Małopolskie Voivodship, as well as designing methods and forms of meeting them;

8) making available and disseminating resultant statistical information concerning the Małopolskie Voivodship, including that containing comparisons with other regions;

9) conducting regional research and analyses significant from the point of view of the specificity of the Małopolskie Voivodship, including cooperation with other scientific and research units;

10) providing information support to local government units, as well as advisory and expert units of local government by developing analyses concerning the Małopolskie Voivodship;

11) conducting work in the field of popularization and promotion of statistics and dissemination of knowledge about statistics, including conducting statistical education in the Małopolskie Voivodship;

12) co-participating in conducting work for the needs of regional statistics studies;

13) presenting statistical information concerning the area of ​​the Małopolskie Voivodship to government administration bodies, local government bodies and other recipients;

14) conducting research, analytical and publishing activities in the Małopolskie Voivodship in the field of cross-border and Euroregional statistics in cooperation with the Centre for Transborder Areas Surveys and Statistics for Euroregions of the Statistical Office in Rzeszów;

15) maintaining the National Official Business Register (REGON) in the scope of legal persons, organizational units without legal personality and individuals conducting business activity, as well as providing data from the REGON register;

16) maintaining and providing data from the National Official Register of the Territorial Division of the Country (TERYT)  in the area of ​​the Małopolskie Voivodship in the part covering the system of statistical regions and census enumeration areas and the system of address identification of streets, real estates, buildings and dwellings;

17) maintaining spatial address databases in the area of ​​the Małopolskie Voivodship for the purposes of creating spatial records in the GIS software held, based on the data of the TERYT register and other statistical registers;

18) cooperation with government administration bodies and local government bodies in the Małopolskie Voivodship maintaining official registers and public administration information systems in the scope of providing source information for updating the maintained registers and records for research;

19) conducting research on the area of ​​the Małopolskie Voivodship, jointly with government or local government administration bodies, included at their request in the statistical research programme of official statistics;

20) administering the IT infrastructure of public statistics services located in the Małopolskie Voivodship.

The Statistical Office in Kraków specializes in the implementation of nationwide tasks performed for official statistics in the areas of:

• culture,
• social assistance,
• disability,
• family – in the scope of benefits for the family, support for the family and the foster care system and care for children up to 3 years of age,
• internal security – in the scope of the activities of rescue services,
• social economy,
• health and health care.
